During World War II, many men and women fought so that future generations, including their own, would be better off. The World War II veterans who fought against the Axis powers were honored through scholarships for their children and grandchildren sponsored by many organizations. Occasionally, scholarships are given to the grandchildren of WWII veterans as a tribute to their legacy. Those who had family members who fought in World War II may be eligible for scholarships that will help cover college expenses. Scholarship programs often support high school students in reaching their academic goals. Scholarship awards include valuable perks like a free laptop and can be a substantial assistance to students in meeting their academic and educational goals.

Eligibility requirements often focus on academic achievement, but financial assistance might also be considered for those in dire need. Moreover, the eligibility criteria may also take into account one’s dedication to community service, leadership roles, and other extracurricular activities that showcase a student’s commitment to their academic and educational goals.

Navy League Of The United States Scholarship

Veterans, including those who served in World War II, can receive scholarships from the Navy League of the United States to honor their contributions. Students who choose to attend an accredited college or university after graduating high school, for example, are eligible for the John J. Schiff, Sr Scholarship. When the awards are announced, the winners receive a $10,000 scholarship. In addition to demonstrating financial need, applicants can be either an infant or a direct descendant of a war veteran. Eligible students should also maintain good academic standing throughout their undergraduate tenure. Application materials, including an essay and a letter of recommendation, must be uploaded online to the scholarship website.

AMVETS Scholarship

The AMVETS organization assists veterans and their families through volunteerism. Scholarships are awarded to graduating seniors and grandchildren of Americans who served during World War II. Financial need, academic promise, and merit are required. Applications will be reviewed and accepted based on the first 200 people who submit them. Six award recipients will receive $4,000 each, and one will receive $1,000.

The Marine Corps Scholarship

The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation awards a select number of grants to the grandchildren of World War II veterans. To be considered, students must have a GPA of at least 2.0, a household income of less than $98,000, and be committed to attending an approved college the following year. Candidates must also demonstrate that their grandfather or grandmother was a member of a recognized veterans organization. There are varying scholarship amounts awarded each year.

Samsung American Legion Scholarships

As part of its support for American veterans, Samsung offers a $5 million endowment scholarship in partnership with the American Legion. The scholarships are awarded to high school juniors who are members of the American Legion Boys State or Auxiliary Girls State program. Children of veterans, including World War II veterans, are also eligible. Applicants must submit a 500-word essay and their academic history, school involvement, and financial need. The amount given varies, but successful applicants can use it for tuition, books, fees, and boarding.

Children Of Warriors National Presidents’ Scholarship

Children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandsons of veterans of The American Legion who have served in the military are eligible to apply for 15 scholarships, each worth $3,500. Applicants must perform 50 hours of community service during their high school years.

Past President’s Parley Scholarship

This scholarship is intended to help the child or grandchild of an American Legion member who served in the armed forces during an eligible membership period. The applicant must be enrolled at a Texas Education Institution to pursue medical training.

The 100th Infantry Battalion Veterans Stanley Izumigawa Scholarship Fund

By offering scholarships to descendants of WWII veterans of the 100th Battalion, the scholarship fund continues the tradition of continued service and honors descendants who share similar values. Particular focus is given to school seniors on the brink of their college educations. In addition to a written comment, you will need to prepare an article about the historical significance of the 100th Infantry Battalion during World War II and how the soldiers' personal stories can benefit all Americans.

National Children Of Warriors Scholarship

From 1991 to the present, this scholarship supports the descendants of veterans who served during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Participants are high school seniors seeking admission to an accredited college or university.

Michigan Memorial Scholarship

Daughters, granddaughters, and great-grandaughters of honorably discharged or deceased World War I, World War II, Korean Conflict, Vietnam Hostilities, Granada, Lebanon, and Panama Hostilities, and Persian Gulf War veterans were eligible for this scholarship. Applicants must be seniors in high school or first-year college students under 21 years of age. Awardees can use this money to pay for tuition, room and board, fees, textbooks, and supplies at the kindergartens, colleges, and universities.

Woman’s Army Corps Veterans’ Association Scholarship

Children and grandchildren of WWII veterans can attend high school and college thanks to the Women's Army Corps Veterans' Association's scholarship program for grandchildren of WWII veterans. Graduates of high schools and students who plan to enroll in an accredited university or college must apply. This scholarship program has been instrumental in furthering the educational goals of many school seniors. This organization offers scholarships for granddaughters of WWII veterans who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. As part of the application process, applicants must submit a biographical essay, recommendation letters, and a list of academic accomplishments.

Folds Of Honor Foundation

Dependents of deceased and disabled veterans can apply for scholarships of up to $5,000 at the Folds of Honor Foundation. To qualify for scholarships, applicants need a grade point average of at least 2.0. There are two types of scholarships offered by Folds of Honor: Immediate-Use and Future-Use Scholarships. Students whose dependents are currently attending college are awarded Immediate-Use Scholarships, and students whose dependents are too young to attend college are awarded Future-Use Scholarships.

Military Order Of The Purple Heart

Scholarships of up to $3,000 are available through the Military Order of the Purple Heart to dependents of disabled veterans who have received the Purple Heart for injuries received in action and are MOPH members. A disabled veteran's child, stepchild, adopted child, or grandchild must have a grade point average of at least 2.75 on a scale of 4.0, and the child must be a biological child, stepchild, adopted child, or grandchild.

Freedom Alliance

Medical students and those from military families may find special consideration in some of these scholarship programs. Students whose parents are disabled veterans can apply for scholarships of varying amounts from the Freedom Alliance. Applicants must be dependents of a veteran who has been classified as 100 percent disabled. Freedom Alliance scholarships are available to high school seniors or college students in their senior year or currently enrolled in college. Students must not be older than 26 years of age to qualify.

Government-Sponsored Scholarships

Generational wealth through education can be a focal point for many of these scholarships. Dependents of disabled veterans are often eligible to receive scholarships from state governments. Students who are dependents of disabled veterans who have resided in Florida for at least one year and are under the age of 23 may be eligible to receive full-tuition scholarships from the Florida state government.

Dependents of North Carolina veterans can receive full-tuition scholarships at state schools or full-tuition scholarships up to $4,500 at private schools. You can check with your state's government for information about scholarship programs.
