Gas is a necessity for anyone who uses a car to get around. During the past few months, there has been a record increase in the price of regular unleaded gas in the United States. At $3.83 per gallon, the national average is expected to rise.

Many low-income families today rely on welfare gas cards for survival. As most needy families' expenses rise, gasoline vouchers help them focus on other basic needs.

What Is A Gas Voucher Or Card?

Gas cards benefit low-income individuals, families, and unemployed people by helping them save on fuel expenses, offering temporary assistance to alleviate the rising cost of gas. Welfare gas cards are free fuel cards offered by organizations and government agencies to help the needy attend work, medical appointments, job interviews, etc.

Usually, vouchers for gas can only be used to purchase gas in select gas stations, and there's a limit on how much fuel you can buy.

Where To Get Free Gas Cards?

How To Get Free Welfare Gas Cards Near Me

Several organizations offer gas assistance to the unemployed, disabled, low-income people, or those who already receive government assistance. It may be necessary for you to have a referral agency to apply.

    Free Gas USA Inc.

Free Gas USA, Inc. is a non-profit organization. It offers gasoline grants to low-income individuals who have difficulty paying for gas to drive to work, medical appointments, school, or groceries. The monthly amount of the gas cards range from $50 to $1,200. Applicants must meet the following requirements to qualify:

    • The applicant is 18 years old or above
    • The applicant is a legal resident of the USA
    • The applicant owns an automobile that is licensed and insured
    • The applicant fulfills the income criteria of the program

    Salvation Army

Salvation Army operates throughout the country and distributes free furniture, toys, food, and other resources to those in need. Their services are available to everyone regardless of religion or background.

On top of free welfare gas cards or vouchers, the organization also provides general transportation assistance. Requests for financial aid may be granted to help students get to school, doctors' appointments, or job interviews.

Due to a lack of funding, they only select a few people who will receive assistance. Supporting documents such as proof of household expenses or pay stubs are required for the application. Since there are resource limitations, the vouchers may not be available every week or month.

    Non-Emergency Transportation (NET)

If you are receiving Medicaid or another government assistance program, you may be eligible to receive free welfare gas cards for non-emergency transportation (NET) to medical appointments. Many people have difficulty taking their children to doctors' appointments, and this program aims to bridge that gap.

Your Medicaid insurance funds the non-emergency transportation program. To be eligible, you must:

    • Call the number at the back of your Medicaid Card
    • Select the appropriate option to connect
    • Inform the service representative that you want to apply for the NET program

Generally, Medicaid recipients who are on full coverage are approved. You need your doctor's Medicaid card and telephone number, as well as your next appointment date, to process your request. Medicaid is not the same as Medicare, which has different requirements.

Upon approval of your application, you will receive a debit card in the mail. Since this is a reimbursement program, you must attend your appointment before receiving payment. Once you've attended the medical appointment, your debit card is credited with reimbursing your travel expenses.

To properly manage this reimbursement, you will need to plan on paying for your transportation for up to three months until funds are transferred to your debit card. It is a good habit to keep money on the card on your next medical appointment so you can use it for transportation. In addition to government programs, there are also many non-profit organizations and religious organizations offering gas vouchers, social services, emergency assistance to low-income families.

    St. Vincent de Paul

A worldwide organization, St. Vincent de Paul, provides financial assistance to purchase gasoline for people meeting the qualifications. Take note that benefits are based on income.

Cardholders may use the cards for mandatory services, including job interviews. In addition to job training and job placement, this organization also offers food pantries, housing programs, thrift stores, prison reentry, and medical services.

    Catholic Charities

With over 3,621 locations worldwide, Catholic Charities provide assistance to disadvantaged families and individuals. Their services include disaster relief, gas vouchers, financial aid, rent and bill assistance, shelters, food, clothing, and toys for children on Christmas that pass the eligibility requirements.

If they have no welfare gas cards available, they can point you to other organizations that give vouchers or coupons in the area.

    211 Program

Find financial and other assistance programs in your area from the United Way by dialing 211 or visiting their website. The United Way offers addiction treatment, re-entry programs to former prisoners, and veteran support services. While it may not be possible for United Way to provide the service directly, they will point you to the appropriate organization.

Welfare gas cards, housing, food, and healthcare are just a few things they offer. You can find these items under their section on “Essential Needs.” United Way also gives Covid-19, Crisis and Emergency, and Disaster Assistance services and guidance to new residents.

    Swagbucks

Unemployed people who complete select online tasks receive free gas cards from Swagbucks. Participating in surveys, watching videos, shopping online, etc., are just some of the options available.

You can get up to $5 off your fuel with this platform. Additionally, gift cards can earn you points that you can redeem for free fuel or cash back into your account.

    Kroger

You can earn a Shell gas card at Kroger and redeem it for free welfare gas cards. This program allows you to earn points and receive free gas cards. Getting a free gas card will help you save money on gas and at the grocery store.
